POPE BENEDICT XVI

POPE BENEDICT XVI

I wrote a small piece yesterday about some of my thoughts on our Pope Benedict XVI. Watching the Mass he celebrated yesterday at Yankee Stadium was a most moving experience for me. He is so much better than his predecessor that I am confident he will be able to cure some of the ills in the church, especially the problem with gay and pedophile priests in the United States – something to which the previous pope was completely oblivious.
Watching my own parish in my hometown, I often wondered why the church there hired openly flaming gay priests. In a way, I have little quarrel with someone wishing to adopt a gay lifestyle – it is not my cup of tea – for what one does with his or her personal life is within him/her self. But to put gay individuals in the close proximity to young boys is just asking for trouble. The Gay community insists that being gay is different than being a pedophile. But you really need to prove this. This assertion begs the question and has absolutely no evidence to support it. But be that as it may, the Catholic Church in America was desperate because noone was entering the priesthood and they just "looked the other way" when recruiting priests.
Recently, they have and are continuing to pay the price of their laxity. Pope John Paul II was, as I said, completely oblivious to this problem. For this he should never be considered for sainthood because he is not worthy of it. He, single-handed, set the Roman Catholic Church back 2,000 years. I am hoping Pope Benedict XVI will do better. Already, I like what I am seeing. This man is holy, sincere, and is not afraid to tackle the serious spiritual problems facing our Modern World.
As I said in my previous Blog, I am now proud to admit: "I am a Roman Catholic."

FAITH BEING RESTORED IN THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH

FAITH BEING RESTORED IN THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
As a Roman Catholic, it saddened me to watch the Roman Catholic Church deteriorate during the 27 year reign of Pope John Paul II. He had been called by some "The man of the century." But I always asked: "What century?" In my estimation, Pope John Paul II set the Roman Catholic Church back 2,000 years. Although he was well know for kissing the ground in every country he visited, his innovations never rose above ground level. He completely was oblivious to the pedophile problems occurring in the United States Church. When Boston’s Cardinal Law wanted to resign, Pope John Paul II refused to accept it until it became so obvious that he had to do it. Then Cardinal Law was sent to officiate in a nunnery in Maryland before the Pope finally brought him to Rome for a promotion. Now some are thinking of sainting him. If heaven is full of saints like that, one wonders what hell is like.
Now comes Pope Benedict XVI. What a refreshing Pontiff. At an age when one is assumed to have wisdom, this Pope HAS wisdom. It is refreshing to admit "I am a Roman Catholic!" He is unafraid to tackle the problems of our Modern Age, and I trust he might be able to undue the damage caused by his predecessor.
Some may disagree with my assessment, but it is mine, for whatever it may be worth.
