Because many disease conditions are directly related to improper nutrition, the use of supplements is an integral part of our program of treatment. At Tauraso Medical Clinic we try to determine what can be done nutritionally to help you cure you. We will map out a detailed program of supplements (vitamin, mineral, and digestive additives) tailor-made for your particular needs. Our treatments are based upon up-to-date scientific research.

From time to time we will post on our website detail information on the some supplements. We caution you not to just take any supplement without knowing how to balance the use of vitamins, minerals, and digestive aids within a total health program. If your problem is allergy or chemical sensitivity, although some supplements might help, it would be better to determine to what you might be sensitive and remove these items from your environment.

Our Clinic Pharmacy carries a full variety of supplements. We insure that the manufacturers of our supplements guarantee their potency and safety. For instance, our fish oils, sources of essential omega 3', are tested to be found free of heavy metal contamination of mercury, lead, etc.

What is Betaine Hydrochloride?

BETAINE HCL with Pepsin

Betaine hydrochloride is usually a non-essential nutrient, except for the many individuals whose production of gastric is either low (hypochlorhydria) or virtually absent (achlorhydria). It is a source of hydrochloric acid, a naturally occurring chemical produced by the parietal cells of the stomach that helps digest food by breaking up proteins and fats. In particular, Betaine HCL is necessary for adequate absorption of protein, calcium, vitamin B12, and iron. Additionally, stomach acid is required for adequate absorption of many micronutrients, such as, selenium, copper, zinc, etc. The low pH of the stomach’s hydrochloric acid also destroys ingested bacteria and other microorganisms.

Low to absent stomach acid can directly or indirectly CAUSE the following disease conditions:

Condition (related to)

  • Anemia ( B12, other B vitamins, iron)
  • Arteriosclerosis (improper fat and cholesterol metabolism)
  • Asthma (protein metabolism, food allergy)
  • Diarrhea (carbohydrate, fat metabolism, food allergy)
  • Eczema (allergies and malabsorption of micronutrients)
  • Gallstones (fat and calcium metabolism)
  • Gastric ulcers (destruction in stomach of H. Pyloris)
  • Food allergies (protein metabolism)
  • High homocysteine ( a cause of severe coronary heart disease)
  • Hives, acute and chronic (protein metabolism)
  • Indigestion and heartburn (fat, protein, carbohydrate metabolism)
  • Malabsorption (of proteins and fats)
  • Osteoporosis (calcium absorption)
  • Proriasis (allergies, malabsorption of micronutrients)
  • Rheumatoid arthritis (allergies)
  • Thyroid conditions
  • Tic douloureux (food allergies)
  • Vitiligo

Usage and Possible Side Effects:

Only people who have reduced levels of stomach acid should take Betaine HCL. A nutritionally orientated doctor can diagnose this condition.

No adverse effects of this nutrient have been detected, although there is need for further studies. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or which is especially bothersome.

Contraindicated with stomach and duodenal ulcers.

Benefits of Fish Oils: Omega-3's EPA and DHA:

Omega-3 Oils are considered very important nutrients which support and maintain the integrity of healthy cells. Most certainly, EPA and DHA are recognized in today’s scientific research, as vital nutrients for healthy

Cardiovascular Health

Brain and Nerve Fubction

Eye, Vision, and Joint Health

Immune System Health

Radiant, Healthy Skin

The abbreviations "EPA" and "DHA" are used for "Eicosapentaenoic Acid" and "Docosahexaenoic Acid," respectively, obviously because they are much easier to say!

EPA promotes a healthy cardiovascular system by regulating the formation of healthy body prostaglandins. EPA plays a strong role in moderating inflammatory processes, including platelet aggregation. By competing with arachondonic acid in cell membranes, EPA has the ability to reduce the production of inflammatory eicosanoids such as prostaglandin E2 and leucotriene B4, and pro-inflammatory cytokines.

EPA and DHA from fish oils have been used in several studies that show their beneficial effects. Studies have shown that omega-3 oils, such as EPA and DHA are beneficial for promoting healthy heart rhythm, supporting improved endothelial function, promoting healthy triglyceride levels and supporting flexible joint function.

DHA supports normal growth and development, maintains brain and neural functions, and supports visual function. DHA is a vital component of tissue in the brain and retina of the eye and has a strong role in the function of the membranes of the Central Nervous System. Also, it is necessary for membrane fluidity and supports nerve cell communication.

ALA (Alpha Linolenic Acid), naturally supplied by Cod Liver Oil, is an Omega-3 which the body cannot synthesize. As with essential amino acids, which the body cannot synthesize, there are essential fatty acids, such as linolenic acid, which the body cannot synthesize, and, hence, must be eaten as food or taken as a supplement. DHA and EPA can be synthesized from ALA albeit in limited amounts.

Fish Oils also contain significant amounts of:

Vitamin A, required for maintenance of proper vision; formation, maintenance, and growth of skin and mucous membranes, which form the body’s primary barrier to infection, and

Vitamin D, which helps regulate and control the metabolism of Calcium and Phosphorus by aiding in the absorption of these two minerals from the small intestine, and by directly affecting the rate at which these minerals form and maintain bone.

Additional comments about the purity and potency of the fish oils we supply from our clinic pharmacy:

Purity and freshness of raw materials are top priorities for our suppliers of Cod Liver Oils. For this reason, only livers of cod caught in the very northern arctic oceans are used. Here, in the cleanest seas in the world, the cold ocean waters contain ideal nutrition for the growth of healthy cod. Only fish harvested from nets in fresh clean arctic waters far off the coast of Norway are used.

Finally, our suppliers are committed to offering only the highest quality cod liver oil, which consistently provides the best results. The oil is regularly tested (using AOAC international protocols) for potency and purity by an independent, FDA registered laboratory and found to be free of detectable levels of mercury, cadmium, lead, PCB’s, and 28 other contaminants.
